Mary Sorenson

Our founder, Mary Sorenson, said “I’m ready to pass on the legacy of design success that the Lord has blessed me with since establishing Cedar Hill Design. In 1983, clients that believed in me provided start-up seed funds, so I’m paying forward the multiplication of their investment by offering a launching pad to the upcoming crop of career design professionals. It is so expensive today to obtain a high visibility location, selection showroom, workspace, and operational systems, but together, we can provide all that for the up-and-coming talent for a minimal shared cost. Building on an established business foundation allows budding entrepreneurs to focus on their passion for design and service for their clients while learning all the other hats they must wear. Our experienced staff that has over 100 years of aggregate business-of-design experience to provide what college did not. Creating Home provides both spaces to succeed as a business incubator and a retail shopping experience for creative homemakers. Serving Dallas, Ellis, and Tarrant Counties and wherever our clients may travel, Creating Home is a perfect avenue to bring industry professionals together with a convenient DFW location in a green-built, stunning timber-frame venue.”

Mary reflected, “CHDC was founded on Proverbs 24:3-4 and has been both a ministry and supported ministry. I made a commitment that at 75, I would devote more of my remaining years serving at Straight Street Ministries, the residential home that my late husband and I founded in 1993 to disciple those who were formerly slaves to addiction, incarceration, or homelessness. Hundreds of lives and families have been restored to freedom in Christ! The Lord has recently tasked us with building Tiny Home & ADU Communities to offer a reboot for Veterans/Vet Families. Pray for us, this is a big vision that can only be done by a big God! Having been named as a top design firm in the metroplex, won over 25 awards for Parade and National Show Homes, and written for trade publications, it’s going to be a blast to organize a Mini-Parade and Designer Showcases to market our team of contractors, trades and suppliers while benefitting those that have served in our military! So, now it is the season to follow my heart to the next unfolding chapter of life, to coach and inspire creativity as we equip the next generation to bless and prosper through faith and design.”
